Comments: I am an adult with Autism/Asperger who was diagnosed at an early age (language delay and sensory issues led to the diagnosis). With a lot of help from family and friends, I became verbal and was "socialized" to where I could start school and operate at or above grade level academically. I benefited from growing up in a very large (8 siblings) and sociable family. For the most part, I can "pass" as NT although there are a few minor "oddities" that from time to time will get me into trouble. I am the 1st Vice President of the Autism Society of Collin County (url; http://www.autism-ascc.org/) and help facilitate teenage self advocacy groups as well as speak to teachers, parents, and professionals about adolescent and adult issues. I rode my bicycle 10,000 total miles and completed 25 rides of 100 or more miles in 2007 |
