The Travelling Exhibit Network is the Community Museums Association of Prince Edward Island's contribution to the Heritage Network Atlantic.

The initial idea was:

     1) To provide a way for musem workers and volunteers in small to medium sized museums to develop the skills to create quality exhibit for their own museums and for travelling with mininimal cost and simple accesible techniques.

    2) To encourage small museums to create small travelling exhibits that would allow them to share their stories with other communities.

     3) To provide small museums with access to a number of small travelling exhibits that they could receive from other museums to enhance what they can offer to their own communities

    4) To develop a network which can move these exhibits with minimal costs

    5) To promote cooperation between members of the Atlantic Canada museum community.

Exhibits should be easily
moved and disassembled
Exhibits should have
protective covers

Responsibilities of the Host Museum

         The host museums responsibilities are:

         1) To ensure that proper museum standards are applied to each
             exhibition,

         2) That the accompanying paperwork is filled out,  and

         3) That the exhibit is transported to the next museum site.
This can be accomplished using a personal vehicle or a
professional shipper could be used if desired.

Exhibits are easily transported in the
back of a van and elements are
easily replaced if damaged.

How can there be no costs?

Every effort has been made to make the exhibits in the Network accessible to even the smallest of museums. One of the ways that we have been able to reduce any cost has been to have no artifacts in the travelling exhibits. The assumption is that museums receiving the exhibits can use the exhibit to showcase objects in their collection to illustrate or enhance the exhibits story. BY having no objects and ensurung that all parts of the exhibit are easily repaired or replaced we can eliminate the need for insurance.  The project is NOT a fund raiser, the idea behing the project is for museums in Atlantic Canada to share information with each other with little or no costs.
