| What is the Host Program? | This is a unique
way to help a newcomer adapt to our Island community. The time and friendship of
a caring volunteer can ease the frustration and
loneliness that newcomers often experience in adjusting
to their new life in Canada.

| Who are Newcomers? | There
are a variety of people from all walks of life, and
from everywhere in the
world. Some
choose to leave their country in the hope for a better
future. Others are forced to abandon their home because of war, economic or natural
disaster, political or religious persecution. [See also Refugees in Canada! ] |
| What does the Host Program give the newcomer? | It
matches newcomer with local volunteers. It provides the
"Canadian Connection" that all newcomers need.
It helps reduce the feelings of isolation and loneliness,
and the stress of adjusting to a new country. |
| Who are Host Volunteers? | Singles...
couples... families... services... clubs... church...
groups... students... homemakers... teachers...
doctors... merchants... carpenters... scientists... - You! Host volunteers are not expected to provide:
