International Year of Volunteers

Flag Lake of Shining Waters IODE welcomed non-profit charitable groups from all over the Island to attend an International Year of Volunteers church service at the First United Baptist Church. The service was held Sunday, April 22, 2001 which was the beginning of National Volunteer Week. Lake of Shining Waters IODE members displayed the IODE flag and chapter banner. They paraded the volunteers in to the church with the Philippine Volunteers March.

Service Program The service began with guitarist, Robert Drew followed by the Worship Team Ministry who sang "Bring Out the "V" In You". The children's story by Karen Howard was linked to this song. Children had little "Vs" tucked in their pockets. The First United Baptist Church Handbell Choir played Fanfare, Mediation and Precious Lord Take My Hand.

Special guests included Hon. Elmer MacFadyen and Mayor George MacDonald who gave remarks on volunteerism. Lake of Shining Waters IODE members Lynne Gallant and Perlene Morrison read the scripture.

Donna Johnson sang, "To Be A Volunteer" written by Rev. William F. Bell. Dr. Coffin's sermon was entitled, "Fools For Christ Sake". Helen Stewart MacRae played the Processional, "Land of Hope and Glory".

Special music to recognize volunteers was researched by Marlene Bryenton, Coordinator for the IYV sevice. The church hall was decorated in IYV colours and the chapter supplied an IYV cake with logo. Sandwiches and coffee were supplied by church families. Volunteer groups within the church were given IYV pins and the special guest organizations were presented with IYV certificates.

On Saturday, April 21, 2001 the Lake of Shining Waters IODE recognized all IODE members attending the Provincial Chapter IODE Meeting at the Charlottetown Hotel with IYV pins. This included the National Chapter of Canada IODE President, Noreen Salari who was in attendance. Lake of Shining Waters IODE chapter presented IYV certificates to all IODE chapters on PEI to recognize their volunteer efforts.
