Phase Three Phase three began in September, 2000 and involves the development of Information Sessions and Resources designed to heighten awareness of service providers about woman abuse and the importance of using the developed protocol to ensure safety of the their clients and encourage disclosure and intervention as early as possible. During this phase of the project, a Collaboration Workshop was held bringing together approximately 50 survivors, community organizations and service providers to focus on moving towards a holistic, co-ordinated response to woman abuse and to determine how to better share information between service providers about policies, procedures and services to ensure that they provide appropriate and timely responses. As a result of the workshop, a Collaboration Strategy was developed. Other activities which took place during phase 3 include: A multi-sector team including survivors of woman abuse, community organizations and Justice, Income Assistance and Hospital Emergency service providers was brought together to develop the Responding to Woman Abuse: A Resource Guide for Service Providers, which includes a Woman Abuse Services Guide, and is designed to raise awareness among service providers about woman abuse. The Resource Guide was printed and distributed to over 200 front line workers, policy makers and community organizations. A multi-sector team including survivors of woman abuse, community organizations and Justice, Income Assistance and Hospital Emergency service providers was brought together to plan a series of multi-sector information sessions involving survivors of woman abuse as presenters to raise awareness among front line service providers about the developed protocols for responding to woman abuse, the dynamics of woman abuse, the needs of victims of woman abuse and the community resources available to assist victims of woman abuse. One information session was held in each of the three counties and were highlighted by the participation of survivors of woman abuse, who talked about their experiences in seeking help. The sessions were attended by over 100 service providers. As well, Transition House Association, one of the project partners, will be facilitating a number of on site sessions for service providers upon request. A one-day workshop was held, bringing together the survivors of woman abuse and community and government organizations to develop an evaluation framework for the on-going evaluation of woman abuse protocols in the areas of Justice and Income Assistance. A Gender-Based Evaluation Framework was created and distributed to 60 policy makers and project participants. One of the actions recommended in the framework document is the hiring of a co-ordinator to assist the sectors to work together with community organizations and survivors of woman abuse to create and carry out Gender-Based evaluation strategies. This will be carried out in Phase 4 of this initiative.
