Phase One, the Assessment Phase, began on February 1, 1999 and included a workshop with sixty five policy makers and service providers, community groups and survivors of woman abuse, to identify current policies and procedures in place as well as policy gaps. As a result of the workshop, there were several messages that emerged that have been carried through to Phase 2 as basic principles: "Survivors of woman abuse and community organizations must be significantly involved in policy development and evaluation." To assist the work of Phase 2, the "Policy and Protocol Gap Map: A guide to the woman abuse protocol and service assets and needs of Prince Edward Island" was developed. As a result of the workshop, three sectors, Justice, Hospital Emergency and Income Assistance, were targeted for work in Phase 2, the Development Phase. |
