The Wood Islands and Area Development Corporation will hold its Ferry Festival August 30 and 31 at Wood Islands Lighthouse Park and at Plough the Waves Centre.
Saturday afternoon at the park 1 to 4 there will be children’s races and games, fish pond, hot dogs and lemonade. All ages are invited. Bring your team and be a part of the Tug of War at 3:30 pm.
Visit the light house, which will be holding a special event. Everyone is invited to bring their art, poems or stories about the ferries to the park. There will be prizes and all creations will be on display at Plough the Waves on Sunday. Categories are under 8, 9-14, over 14.
Saturday evening at Plough the Waves Centre a Battle of the Bands will take place for youth. Pre-register ($25) by calling Walter Reilly at 962-3189.
Sunday afternoon and evening at Plough the Waves from 1 to 4 pm, bring or borrow a bike for a ride on the Trail. A bike expert will be on hand to pump up the tires, make repairs or adjustments and to teach children to ride. Cyclists can take part in a rally for prizes.
For those who would like to compete in mind games there will be chess, checkers, Scrabble and a spelling bee.
Bakers are invited to bring their very best blueberry desserts at 1:00 for a tasting contest, to be judged by local celebrities.
There will be a ceilidh featuring Michael Page, Walter Reilly and Friends at 7 pm. Watch for posters with more details about festival events. For information call Jill at 962-4147.
