Acadian Museum
The Deportation of the Acadians of Île Saint-Jean: A Remarkable Story of Courage and Determination, presented for the 250th anniversary of the Deportation of 1758, features the human dimension of this tragic event that uprooted almost 4,700 Acadians from Île Saint-Jean (now PEI). Researched by historian Georges Arsenault, the exhibition features several Acadians of the time who relate how the Deportation disrupted, even destroyed, their lives and those of their families. These individuals and their stories are represented by life-size sculptures and large canvasses, original works by artist Lucie B. Bellemare of Abram-Village. Included are maps with Island Acadian establishments before and after the Deportation by Samuel Arsenault, retired Université de Moncton geography professor. Artifacts from archeological digs by Parks Canada at Port-la-Joye (Rocky Point) and Havre-Saint-Pierre (Greenwich)are also on view as are several portraits of Acadian ancestors whose grandparents lived during the Great Upheaval. Open Mon–Fri 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Miscouche, on Rte 2. 432-2880
